November is the month city governments travel. Three places are worth a slot in the diary, and one of them is Cluj-Napoca.
Barcelona, 3–5 November. Smart City Expo World Congress and Tomorrow.Mobility run side by side at Fira Gran Via. It is the one week of the year when the digital-services, energy and mobility teams of many European cities are in the same building. The Barcelona profile is a useful primer on the host. Our preview of the congress has the tracks, passes and side events.
Brussels, 10–17 November. The European Commission holds its Research and Innovation Days on 10–11 November, in Brussels and online, and the Apply AI Summit on 17 November. On-site places for the summit closed on 9 October; it can still be followed online. We explain what the Apply AI agenda means for cities. If your city is going to the POLIS conference in Brussels on 2–3 December, the registration deadline is 15 November.
Cluj-Napoca, 11–19 November. IT Days, the city’s developer conference, runs on 11–12 November. A week later, on 18–19 November, the AI Technologies & Research Forum opens at Grand Hotel Italia, organised by an agency with the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca as academic partner. Actual de Cluj reported that the university’s new AI research institute would open the same day; the dates and what is confirmed are in our piece on Cluj-Napoca’s AI autumn.
Looking further ahead, Europe’s city titles for 2027 are settled: Liepāja and Évora for culture, Heilbronn as Green Capital.
