The federal government is providing around €980,000 to renovate Endenicher Park in Bonn. State Secretary Dr. Olaf Joachim handed the federal grant cheque to Mayor Guido Déus. The money goes to a park that the mayor described as a place where people meet and exercise regardless of club membership or age.
What will change
The existing sports and recreation areas of the park, which lies centrally in the district, will be renovated or renewed in two defined areas. The skatepark will be renovated, and a new basketball and 3x3 streetball court and a new calisthenics facility will be built. The small-field sports area, the boules courts and the kickabout football pitch will also be renovated. Additional recreational areas and new connecting paths are planned as well. According to the city, the low-threshold offers for all age groups are meant to create better conditions for health and physical activity in public space.
Accessibility and climate
Accessible paths and ramps, together with wheelchair-accessible entrances to the sports areas, are intended to make the facilities usable by everyone. For climate protection, surfaces will be unsealed and a rainwater management system installed. New seating, the planting of twelve trees and new lighting are also planned. Mayor Déus named accessibility, climate protection and social integration as the specific goals of the redesign.

The federal government finances the Endenicher Park project through the Special Fund for Infrastructure and Climate Neutrality. In the programme’s first funding round, with a budget of €333 million, around 3,600 project outlines were submitted. A total of 314 projects were selected, including the one in Endenicher Park.
