Studierendenwerk Bonn will lay the foundation stone on 26 August 2026 for an eight-storey student residence at Pariser Straße, with 115 publicly subsidised places on the site of a former car park deck. The state of North Rhine-Westphalia is supporting the project with €12.71 million from its public housing funding. The ceremony is one of the stops on the WohneNRW-Tage tour of housing minister Ina Scharrenbach.

What is being built

The new residence stands at the corner of Pariser Straße and Kopenhagener Straße and is built in a timber-concrete hybrid system. It follows the Efficiency House 40 standard and includes district heating, a central ventilation system and a photovoltaic system. The 115 places come with shared spaces, distributed in mixed form across the individual floors. The architecture is by karlundp Gesellschaft von Architekten mbH. The ministry’s programme lists the event as a foundation stone ceremony for a new building (extension) at 15:30, with the meeting point at Pariser Straße 54.

The money comes from the state’s public housing programme. The state government says it is providing €12 billion from 2023 to 2027 for creating and securing affordable housing, more than ever before.

Part of a wider tour

The WohneNRW-Tage take place on 26, 27 and 28 August 2026, when subsidised housing projects across the state open their doors. The minister’s itinerary covers Viersen, Krefeld, Düsseldorf, Bonn, Köln, Moers, Hattingen, Herdecke, Essen, Dortmund, Kamen, Unna and Paderborn. According to Scharrenbach, the programme creates housing for families, young people, students and trainees as well as older people.

Housing for young people in education also appears elsewhere on the tour. In Dortmund, the AZUBIQUARTIER HANDWERK is to create around 110 apartments for trainees and students by 2028 by converting existing buildings, with funding of around €13.5 million. The project description states that the lack of affordable housing is a considerable challenge for many trainees and students.

Bonn is among the cities with the highest prices for flats in the state. In the state’s 2026 property market report, which covers 2025, first-sale flats in mid-range locations in Bonn cost €6,295 per square metre, behind Düsseldorf, Münster and Köln.
