Strategic Regeneration Framework for the Newcastle Gateshead urban core
Unveiled in October 2026 by the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority, Newcastle City Council and Gateshead Council, the draft framework sets a 25-year vision for the urban core of both cities, including Forth Yards, Gateshead Quays and Pilgrim's Quarter: eight opportunity areas, 16,000 people living in the core by 2050, more than 3 million sq ft of extra commercial space and better links across the Tyne. It goes to each partner's cabinet before public consultation.
