Nantes Métropole opened its metropolitan resource centre at 7 rue Suzanne-Noël in Rezé on Saturday 26 September 2026 with a public day of visits and activities. The site, managed by the association Envie 44, sorts and resells second-hand objects brought by residents or collected at waste collection centres. It fills a gap left by the closure of the Ressourcerie de l’Île and adds to the reuse network supported by the metropolitan authority.

How the centre works

The shop covers 1,000 m² and is organised by theme, starting with household appliances and continuing with decoration, haberdashery, clothing, games and toys, childcare items and other sections. Site manager Anissa Rogui says the route through the shop was designed to be accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs and for reading prices. The centre is open Monday to Saturday, 10:00 to 12:30 and 13:30 to 17:30, and the donation counter keeps the same hours. Waste, dangerous products, broken items, mattresses, car seats, tyres and gas bottles are refused. Home collection is offered for some bulky items under certain conditions.

The numbers

  • Team: 15 people, five of them in work-integration roles
  • Donation counter open since 14 September
  • 25 tonnes collected since the building was handed over in July
  • Annual target: 600 tonnes, 300 from donations and 300 from reuse areas at waste collection centres

Why the metropolis is doing it

Mahel Coppey, vice-president of Nantes Métropole for waste, the social and solidarity economy and the circular economy, describes the centre as a tool for purchasing power that reduces waste and creates local jobs. The facility complements nearly 40 reuse organisations supported by Nantes Métropole. Envie 44 plans school visits, activities and workshops to promote reuse and more responsible consumption. About ten activities are already open for registration before Christmas.

Background

According to the earlier project page, which describes the facility as a provisional resource centre, its creation was approved by the metropolitan council in autumn 2024 and its management was entrusted to Envie 44 for five years. The council made that choice on 6 February 2026. The same page put the estimated cost at €2.9 million, with €1.4 million of State support from the green fund. The metropolis also doubled its operating grants to neighbourhood resource centres, which received €326,000 in 2024 against €161,000 in 2023.
