Nacka’s nature and traffic committee has adopted a new plan for boating and coastal life in the municipality. The plan aims to make Nacka’s lakes and coast easier to use through more berths, developed shore promenades, more bathing places and better public transport on water. It is meant to support future investment along the coast and around the municipality’s lakes.
What the plan contains
The plan sets out proposals in three areas: boating, public transport by water, and access to the water. Measures named include:
- more berths
- better services for boat owners
- developed shore promenades
- more bathing places
- investment in commuter-boat traffic
The plan is also intended to develop the municipality’s coastal environments and to strengthen coastal outdoor recreation and travel by public transport on the water. Sustainability is described as an important part, with a focus on reducing environmental impact and on sustainable fuels in boating. Access to the water is to be improved so that more people, regardless of age and circumstances, can use Nacka’s coast and lakes.
Why Nacka is doing it
The municipality says its long coastline and many lakes give Nacka unique conditions. The stated vision is for Nacka to be a gateway to the archipelago, with year-round coastal life where residents and visitors can easily reach and experience the water. Peter Zethraeus (M), chair of the nature and traffic committee, said: “With this plan we are taking a comprehensive approach to developing a living, accessible and sustainable boating and coastal life for both residents and visitors.” Helena Håkansson (L), chair of the municipal executive board’s safety committee, said the aim is to make it easier for more residents, with or without their own boat, to take part in boating and coastal life.
How it was prepared and how it will be used
The plan was drawn up in dialogue with associations, businesses and residents. According to Håkansson, it shows how piers, services, accessibility and environmental infrastructure can be developed in cooperation with associations and businesses. Poa Hellqvist, the municipality’s director of traffic and property, said the plan gives a clear common direction for developing boating and public transport on water, covering both the short and the long term. Alongside the plan, the municipality has published a planning document titled “Boat commuting in Nacka municipality 2050”.
