Malmö’s urban planning committee has decided to send a new detailed plan for southern Hyllie out for consultation. The plan allows for around 600 new homes, a mix of apartment blocks and terraced houses, a new preschool and a large park. The area will become a new part of Hyllie and also the district’s edge towards the open landscape to the south.

What the plan contains

The area lies between Pildammsvägen, Hyllie boulevard, Atles gata and Almviksvägen, on the border between the dense city and Söderslätt. Here central Hyllie’s modern block city meets the more open buildings of Lindeborg and the rolling Scanian plain.

ElementSize
Flats in apartment blocksabout 580
Terraced housesaround twenty
Preschool140 children
Residential home for older peopleabout 90 flats
Central parkabout 1.3 hectares

The terraced houses are placed closer to the park and help step down the scale of the buildings from the denser block city.

A park in a wider green corridor

The park is to link Hyllievångsparken with Stolpalösaparken and create a green connection between Iduns park and the nature trail at Vintrie. The parks and the nature area will become part of Lernackenstråket, a green corridor that will run all the way between Lernacken and Fosie. Two mature avenues of whitebeam trees will be kept as part of the park setting. New walking and cycling paths are also planned through the park.

Why the city is doing it

Stefana Hoti (MP), city commissioner for urban planning, said that as Malmö grows, the city should build districts where homes, green space and good environments for children go hand in hand. She noted that children will get a large green preschool yard with the park just around the corner. Arwin Sohrabi (S), vice chair of the urban planning committee, described Hyllie as one of Malmö’s most expansive areas, which will continue to grow and develop. He said the plans cover housing, schools and recreation with a focus on sustainability. Emir Alic (L), a substitute member of the committee, said Malmö needs more homes and a greater variety of housing types. In his view, the district should let people at different stages of life find housing that suits their needs.

What happens next

The committee decided at its meeting on Wednesday to send the detailed plan out for consultation with the parties concerned.
