Cluj-Napoca City Hall has completed two parts of the Borhanci education hub: a new high school for up to 360 pupils and a sports hall with 199 seats, together with the outdoor areas around them. The €8.4 million project is one step in a €100 million plan to build a full education campus in Borhanci, from nursery to high school.
What has been built
The high school has a ground floor and two upper floors, with a usable floor area of 3,482.71 m². It is adapted for people with disabilities and contains:
- 12 classrooms and 6 foreign language rooms
- 3 laboratories and a library with a reading room
- a multipurpose hall for 122 people
- a dining room with a serving kitchen, an administrative area and an area for medical offices and annex spaces
The sports hall has a usable floor area of 1,618.21 m², stands with 199 seats, changing rooms, toilets and annex spaces. Outside, the city built a fenced sports ground, pedestrian paths and access roads, green spaces and recreation areas.

The wider hub
The whole Borhanci education hub is worth €100 million. According to the city hall, it includes:
- a nursery with 110 places, already finished and built by CNI through the recovery plan, worth €7.2 million, of which €3.6 million came from EU funds and €3.6 million from the national and local budgets
- a kindergarten with 160 places
- a lower secondary school with 675 places and a sports hall, funded with EU money through the POR programme
- the high school for 360 pupils and the sports hall now completed
- an Olympic swimming pool
Why the city is doing it and what comes next
Mayor Emil Boc said the hub is designed as a real education campus that responds to the needs of families in nearby areas. He said the nursery was recently completed and that the next objective is the school. The project is being developed step by step.
