Barcelona has handed over the keys to 64 public rental homes in a new development in Trinitat Nova, in the Nou Barris district. Mayor Jaume Collboni delivered the keys on 11 June 2026, with Spain’s Housing Minister Isabel Rodríguez attending. The city says the handover brings the number of public homes delivered across Barcelona during the current term to 2,201.

Who the homes are for

Of the 64 homes, 20 are social rentals and 44 affordable rentals, allocated among people on Barcelona’s register of applicants for officially protected housing (RSHPOB). The difference between the two types is the income needed to apply. Social rental requires annual income of at least 4,000 euros and at most between 24,029.60 and 25,898.57 euros, depending on household size. Affordable rental requires minimum income of 16,000 or 25,000 euros and maximum income between 62,279.47 and 69,199.41 euros, also depending on household size.

Part of each group was reserved for specific applicants:

Affordable rents range from 423.75 to 666.96 euros a month, depending on usable floor area. Social rent is calculated on household income and cannot exceed 30% of it.

The building

The development has 95 homes in total; of the rest, 30 are for urban rehousing and one will be allocated through the emergency board. The homes have between 1 and 4 bedrooms. The building was promoted by the Municipal Housing Institute (IMHAB), designed by ESTUDIO ALVAREZ-SALA and MIPMARI ARQUITECTURA I DISSENY, and is laid out in seven stairwells. Pergolas of photovoltaic panels on the roofs produce electricity for shared self-consumption. The project is financed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda. It uses high insulation, solar protection and cross ventilation, and a semi-underground car park avoids mechanical ventilation systems.

Nou Barris and the wider plan

Together with an earlier development at carrer de Palamós 70, the handover brings homes delivered in Nou Barris this term to 162. Works on two more developments are expected to start in the coming months: 59 flats on carrer de Palamós and 83 homes promoted by IMHAB. Collboni said construction of 142 new homes is planned to start during 2026. Under the Pla Viure, the city aims to deliver 3,000 keys by the end of the term, reach a public stock of 15,000 homes in 2027 and keep building about a thousand new protected homes each year.
