A new configuration of interurban bus stops around Avinguda Meridiana in Barcelona came into operation on Monday 2 November. The Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition, working with Barcelona City Council and the interurban bus operators, has created two interchange areas, Sagrera-Meridiana and Clot, that strengthen connections between interurban buses and the metro and Rodalies networks. The change matters most at Sagrera, where around 650 outbound departures run on weekdays.

Why the stops are changing

The work is part of the final stage of the transformation of Avinguda Meridiana promoted by the City Council. The upcoming completion of the redevelopment has made it possible to start organising public space and mobility in their definitive layout. The new stops and the redistribution of lines were designed according to the capacity of each stopping point and the operational needs of the service. Both interchange areas have new maps showing where the stops are, which lines use them and the connections with metro, Rodalies and other public transport.

Sagrera-Meridiana

The Sagrera-Meridiana area groups interurban lines at four separate outbound stopping points. It serves lines to the Maresme, Vallès Occidental, Vallès Oriental, Osona and other municipalities of the metropolitan area, as well as night services. For passengers arriving in Barcelona, there are two dedicated drop-off stops: one for lines that terminate at Sagrera and one for services continuing to the city centre. All stops have shelters and dynamic information panels. The two main boarding points have a double stopping point, intended to speed up boarding, improve operations and reduce waiting times. A double bus lane has also been set up between Felip II and Garcilaso streets.

Clot

At Clot, a new interchange area organises the lines linking Barcelona with municipalities such as Mollet del Vallès, Caldes de Montbui, Sant Feliu de Codines and Santa Maria d’Oló. The new layout makes transfers to nearby public transport easier. Several existing stops remain:

  • Night lines N62, N64 and N65 keep their stop at the junction of Consell de Cent and Avinguda Meridiana.
  • The inbound stop between València and Mallorca streets stays and now also works as a drop-off point for other services.
  • The Fabra i Puig alighting stop, in front of the bus station’s pedestrian crossing, is consolidated for lines entering via Meridiana and continuing to Sagrera or the centre.
